2017 Ford Fusion Sport Puts Down an Enormous 380 Lb-Ft of Torque

2017 Ford Fusion Sport - As Ford continues its tireless march toward the occupation of every nook and cranny of the performance car market, the U.S. automaker announced power output changes for the upcoming 2017 Ford Fusion Sport. Although Ford originally said the Fusion would receive 350 lb-ft of torque, it has been confirmed that the Sport will actually put a tremendous 380 lb-ft of torque down to all four wheels.

Yes, we do mean the Ford Fusion, the very same staid Ford Fusion that competes directly with the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Hyundai Sonata. Sure, the Camry and the Accord put down very respectable numbers when equipped with a V-6 engine, but where the Camry makes 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque, and the Accord spits out 278 hp and 252 lb-ft, the twin-turbo Fusion Sport drops an elbow on both cars with a mighty 325 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque.

If for some unfathomable reason you don’t find this glorious preponderance of torque impressive, consider this: In 2016, the four-door, mid-sized Ford Fusion puts down more torque than both the Ferrari F430 and the legendary Ferrari F50.  Aim the 2.7-liter EcoBoost cannon at BMW, and the torque output of the previous-generation BMW M5 is matched by your dad’s next company car.

Alright, let’s calm down and pull some realistic comparisons. For one, Audi’s freshly redesigned 2017 Audi S4 can’t match Ford’s tire-twisting figures. Where the Audi takes the lead in horsepower with 354 ponies, the Fusion fires back, beating the S4’s 368 lb-ft of twist. The equivalent BMW 340i xDrive puts down 320 hp and 330 lb-ft. Both of these cars come in right at $50,000, while the Ford slots in at $33,475.

Of course, this is all on paper and only tells half the story. The Fusion likely will not be able to hold its own on a curvy road as much as the German sedans would, and the Fusion’s torque only jumps to 380 lb-ft through the use of 93 octane fuel. Any less, and the torque figure drops down to the originally stated 350 lb-ft. Regardless, the Fusion Sport represents a very affordable performance four-door alternative to the German autobahn cruise missiles.

New Fiat 124 Spider pricing and spec

New Fiat 124 Spider pricing and spec - The hotly anticipated Fiat 124 Spider – set to rival Mazda's MX-5 roadster – has been launched in Verona. Here, you can see what it looks like and discover more about the pricing, trim levels and performance figures

FIAT'S new 124 Spider is finally here, and what a beauty! It certainly looks the part with its sculpted bodywork, Maserati-style rear LED tail lights and retro front end.

If this cars side profile and interior look familiar that's because they are. The 124 Spider is based loosely on the Mazda MX-5 , although Fiat have popped their own 1.4-litre MultiAir turbocharged petrol engine under the bonnet for good measure. It packs a 140hp punch and takes the 124 from 0-62mph in 7.5 seconds and on to a top speed of 134mph.

And because it's light, weighing just over a ton, it should be as nippy and fun as it's MX-5 counterpart. It's fairly frugal, too, managing up 44.1mpg on the combined run and emitting just 148g/km of CO2. For a turbocharged sports car, that means the road tax is pretty reasonable at £145 per annum.

Outside, the design by Pinninfarina, echoes the squared-off nose and circular headlamps of the 1966 124 Spider. As Fiat put it, the car "encapsulates the essence of its classic predecessor in a modern and bold package - broad and muscular but also elegant and perfectly proportioned".

Inside, the Fiat comes well equipped, with various features such as Bluetooth, auxiliary input, air conditioning, cruise control and keyless start, as standard. What's more, for an extra £500, you can get Fiat's very own infotainment system, which comes with a seven-inch touchscreen that can access WiFi, DAB radio, two USB ports and sat-nav. Upgrade to the Lusso model and the sat-nav becomes a 3D version.

Another great feature that comes with the top-spec Lusso Plus model is a surround sound Bose sound system, with no less than nine speakers, four of which are cleverly hidden in the luxurious leather headrests for that "seeing the band live" feeling. The Lusso Plus also comes with automatic LED headlamps, automatic wipers and LED daytime running lights.

Safety wise, every Spider comes with four airbags, LED brake lights, a speed limiter, traction control, ABS and a tire pressure monitoring system.

The 124 Spider is available in a choice of eight colours, two with pastel finishes (Passione Red and ice White), five with a metallic sheen (Volcano Black, Argento Grey, Fashion Grey, Magnetic Bronze and Italia Blue) and the final one is a tri-coat pearlescent finish in Urban White.

Prices are due to start at £19,545 for the Classica version, £22,295 for the Lusso and rise to £23,295 for the Lusso plus. The release date and delivery dates are yet to be announced. For more information on the Fiat 124 Spider head to their website now
